If you've been paying attention to The Balvenie's social media, then you already know about the new range of whisky that they've just announced: The Balvenie Stories range! If you aren't familiar with it, this new range is inspired by the character, endeavor and craft that goes into everything The Balvenie produces.
To take the stories range to the next level, there is an audiobook to accompany each expression, designed to bring each one to life.
The first new expression is The Sweet Toast of American Oak. This 12 year old whisky was aged in ex-bourbon casks before being flipped into virgin American oak barrels direct from Kentucky that have been heavily toasted at The Balvenie distillery. This exciting new expression features notes of candied fruit, coconut and vanilla.
The next bold new expression is a 14 year old named The Week of Peat. Once per year, The Balvenie spends one week producing peated whisky. The first time they began this new tradition was back in 2002. In the time since then, The Week of Peat was born. The beautiful result is rich in honey, vanilla and citrus with a delicate smokiness.
Finally, we have A Day of Dark Barley. Amazingly enough, this is not the first time this batch of whisky has been released. Back in 2006, this whisky was originally released as The Balvenie Roasted Malt Aged 14 years. Naturally, they held some back to continue their experiment with dark roasted barley. Now, this is the oldest scotch whisky made using over-roasted barley. This 26 year old has classic tones of honey, vanilla and citrus mixed with oakiness and smokiness. Get it while it lasts, as it's not one to be missed!
The Balvenie Stories range is expected to be released in Ontario this coming fall. Keep an eye out! To find out more, visit www.thebalvenie.com/balvenie-stories/
